Flag Football Blanks Campbellsville for Second Time

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 5, 2023) – The Webber International University women's flag football team hosted Campbellsville University on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference clash on the Warrior Grass Field. It was the second meeting between the two and just as the first time, the Warriors earned the victory in shutout fashion, this time 33-0.
 
The Warriors (8-4 overall) racked up 304 yards of total offense, scoring 33 points along the way. Defensively, Webber held the Tigers (3-10) to just 174 yards of offense and forced three turnovers to assist in the shutout.
 
Webber started off strong, scoring on both of their offensive drives in the first quarter. The Warriors opened the game with a six-play, 60-yard drive. A huge chunk of yardage was gained through a short completion from Samantha Wilson to Kaitlyn Sigmundi who then pitched it off to Jasmine Henry for 38 more yards. The drive was capped by a seven-yard touchdown pass to Kayla Burrows for the 7-0 lead.
 
The second drive of the quarter came after Campbellsville's was cut short due to an interception by Sigmundi. The Warriors then drove down and Gabby Franzose reeled in a one-yard touchdown catch, her first of the season, to double the lead.
 
Webber found the endzone once in the second quarter as Wilson connected with Sigmundi over the top of the defense for a 21-yard touchdown. The Warriors boasted a 20-0 lead at the halftime break.
 
The Tigers opening drive of the second half was quickly cut short as Samantha Gonzalez intercepted a pass and returned it 21 yards to the Campbellsville five-yard line. Wilson then scampered in for short touchdown rush to extend the lead to 26-0.
 
The Warriors scored one final time in the third quarter on a single play after a short completion to Emma Balacco was pitched to Henry once again who turned on the jets for a 57-yard touchdown.
 
Wilson completed 19 of her 27 pass attempts for a total of 292 yards and threw to a total of nine different receivers. She ended with five total touchdowns, four through the air and one on the ground. The Warriors' leading receiver was Henry with three catches for 143 yards and a touchdown. She was followed by Sigmundi with three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown and Balacco with three for 30 yards.
 
On the defensive side, both Zoe Melo and Gonzalez tallied four flag pulls and an interception each. Burrows led the team in flag pulls with five while Jada Dillard, Henry and Balacco all had three.
 
This was Webber's final non-conference game of the season as it now travels to Thomas University for the second matchup of the season on Thursday, April 6th at 4 p.m.
