Webber goes 2-0 during Pool Play at NAIA Women’s Flag Football Finals

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ATLANTA, Ga. (May 6, 2021) – The Webber International University women's flag football team won both of its Pool Play games at the first ever NAIA Women's Flag Football Finals on Thursday, defeating the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) 35-16 and Xavier University of Louisiana (La.) 39-0. With the two wins, Webber will now advance to the Gold Bracket to compete for a national championship on Saturday, May 8.

  • Tied 14-14 at halftime, Webber proceeded to outscore Saint Mary 21-2 in the second half.
  • Susann Kaufmann had 141 yards receiving, three receiving touchdowns and two extra points.
  • Sierra Harris accounted for five total touchdowns on the day. She was 12-for-22 passing for 213 yards and three touchdowns, and she also added two rushing scores.
  • Defensively, Harris had three interceptions as well.
  • Kayla Burrows had 68 yards rushing.
 
Game 2 (Webber 39, Xavier University of Louisiana 0):
  • Webber led it 26-0 at halftime and then won it 39-0 after an interception by Dayne Ford to end the game.
  • Many different Warriors got beneficial experience playing different positions than normal as the Warriors were also able to get players some much needed rest.
  • Susann Kaufmann threw her first career passing touchdown, and added her fourth receiving touchdown of the day.
  • Breaza Robinson had a pick six defensively and also added one receiving touchdown on the throw from Kaufmann.
 
Next up: Third-seeded Webber will play second-seeded Ottawa University (Kan.) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, in the semifinals. If the Warriors win, they will play in the championship game at 3:15 p.m.
 
Coach's Corner: Webber's Head Women's Flag Football Coach Jeffrey Melesky said, "We needed to go 2-0 today, and we did that. We are looking forward to an exciting game against Ottawa. This is who we want to play, and we are looking forward to the challenge they present."
