Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (April 17, 2021) – After finishing in second place in The Sun Conference standings during the regular season, the second-seeded Webber International University women's flag football team fell to third-seeded St. Thomas University 19-13 in the semifinals of the first ever Sun Conference Women's Flag Football Tournament.

It was only Webber's third loss of the season (8-3), and was its first against St. Thomas (6-7) after winning each of the previous three meetings this year between the two teams.

It was a good start for the Warriors, who led 6-0 after the first quarter thanks to a 19-yard touchdown pass from Sierra Harris to RayGene Garner on Webber's first drive of the game. Setting up the first touchdown for Webber was a great 41-yard pass from Garner deep down field to Susann Kaufmann.

Webber then led 13-6 at halftime after Harris found Kayla Burrows for a five-yard score and then completed the extra-point try to Garner.

Unfortunately, that would be the final time Webber would reach the end zone as St. Thomas scored 13 unanswered points to go ahead 19-13 with 4:32 left to play.

After the Warrior defense held strong and stopped St. Thomas on fourth-and-goal with just 2:44 remaining, Webber began its final opportunity of the game from its own 12-yard line, and converted on a fourth-down pass from Harris to Breaza Robinson, followed by an awesome 26-yard reception by Cameron Laine to get Webber past midfield.

Webber then had an opportunity to tie the game facing first and goal from the Bobcat 20-yard line, but was unable to punch it into the end zone after two final pass breakups for the Bobcats with 12 yards still to go.

The game was very similar statistically as Webber had 11 first downs compared to 10 for St. Thomas, passed for 216 yards compared to 219 for St. Thomas, ran 42 plays compared to 41 for St. Thomas, was 1-for-6 on third down while St. Thomas was 1-for-7, was 1-for-3 on fourth down while St. Thomas was 1-for-2, and was 2-for-4 in the red zone while St. Thomas was 1-for-3. Additionally, both teams completed exactly 36 passes, but, one big difference was time of possession, which was controlled by the Bobcats (29:18 to 18:42).

Harris finished completing 16 of her 31 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns, but was haunted by three interceptions. Harris also added 37 rushing yards on five attempts, good for an average of 7.4 yards per carry.

Robinson finished with six catches for 39 yards, Burrows had five catches for 32 yards and a touchdown, Kaufmann had four catches for 92 yards, and Garner had three catches for 27 yards and a score.

Defensively, Garner led both teams with 8.5 flag pulls while Robinson added 4.5 flag pulls and had one tackle for loss. Additionally, both Garner and Laine finished with an interception.

Next up will be the NAIA Postseason Invitational, which will take place May 6-8 in Atlanta, Georgia.
