Box Score Babson Park, FL. - The Webber International Women's soccer team faced off against fellow Sun Conference opponent Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon on the Warrior grass field. The Warriors would give the Fire everything they had, fighting hard the entire match, but an early penalty kick goal would prove to be all the Fire needed as they beat the Warriors 2-0.

The Fire would take the offensive early firing two shots at goal in the first five minutes of play. The Fire would earn a corner kick in 8th minute and Naira Lopez whipped in the cross and it connected with a Warrior defenders hand and gave the Fire an early opportunity to go out in front. Lopez would take the shot from the spot and bury the chance into the bottom corner to give the Fire a 1-0 lead. The Warriors would battle with the Fire for possession and shot attempts for the entirety of the first half and traded chances at goal for the majority of the period. The Warriors would get two opportunities from Deb Guillen and Leah Mcdaid in the 20th and 21st minutes but both shots went wide and high. Abbie LaRocaa would force the Fire keeper, Micaela Owen, to make her first save of the day on a shot in the 25th minute. Owen would record three saves in the first half to keep the Warriors off the board and Cameron Laine would record six saves of her own after the early goal from the Fire. Essie Diaz would force Owen to make another save for the fire in the 34th minute with a left footed shot from just inside the box. The Fire controlled the last 10 minutes of the first half with five shots in a five minute span. Laine did her best to keep the score at 1-0 as she made three of her saves in that five-minute span to keep the Warriors only down one going into halftime.

The Fire would bring the energy out of halftime and record the first four shots of the second half, with Laine recording one save and the rest going high or wide. The Fire would earn a corner kick in the 54th minute and after the ball bounced around the box, Viktoria Lederer connected on a shot with her left foot that found the back of the net to extend the Fire lead to 2-0. The Warriors would earn two corner kicks of their own in the 56th and 58th minutes but they were unable to convert on their opportunities. There would be an hour lightning and weather delay, but play would resume in the 73rd minute with the Warriors bringing energy to the field to try and mount the comeback. The Warriors showed heart but after another 17 minutes of hard fought play, the final whistle blew, and the Warriors would drop this sun conference matchup 2-0 to the Southeastern Fire.

The Warriors will travel down to take on Florida Memorial University on Wednesday, October 4th at 1 PM in Miami Gardens, FL.
