Warriors Fall to St. Thomas in 2-1 Battle

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Webber International University women's soccer team battled throughout 90 minutes Wednesday afternoon but fell to St. Thomas University, 2-1, at Webber Grass Field.

The Warriors (1-2) came out with energy and grabbed the game's first goal in the 24th minute. Ariana Suarez found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, with Sophia Schlager providing the assist to give Webber a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcars (2-0) responded late in the opening half, as Natalie Woodward scored in the 41st minute to even the match at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The second half saw Webber create several strong scoring opportunities. The Warriors recorded nine shots after halftime, including a pair of shots from Tatum Moore that tested the St. Thomas defense. Moore's first attempt in the 63rd minute hit the post, while her second was saved by the Bobcats' goalkeeper.

Webber continued to apply pressure, with Schlager and Moore each finishing the match with three shots. Schlager also recorded two shots on goal and an assist.

Despite Webber's offensive pressure, St. Thomas took the lead in the 77th minute when Julia Ezcurra scored to make it 2-1.

The Warriors continued to fight until the final whistle, but St. Thomas held on for the victory.

Webber finished the match with a 12-9 advantage in shots and put six shots on target. Goalkeeper Brylee Kamm played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.

The Warriors will have a quick turnaround and return to action Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Lake Wales as they look to bounce back and get back in the win column.
