Cross Country Concludes Season with Sun Conference Championships

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (November 6, 2022) - The Webber International University men's and women's cross country teams closed the 2022 season on Saturday morning after competing in The Sun Conference Championships at Sergeant Jasper Park. The men's team finished in seventh place of eight teams while the women's team did not post a team score but had three runners compete individually.

Every runner for the Warriors, both for the men and women, ran a season best for their respective distances in the final meet of the year. The men competed in an 8K race while the women ran the 5K.

The men's team (2:35:39) finished in seventh place, beating out their Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University by just one point (210). Leading the way for the Warriors was freshman Wyatt Friend (27:28.1), who finished in 38th place out of a total of 76 runners. He was followed by another freshman in Andrew Rodriguez (28:50.2), who ended in 53rd place. Avery Coons (31:17.9) finished in 61st position followed by Jankarlos Colon (33:33.1) in 67th and Carter Reynolds (34:30.4). Rounding out the men's scoring was Leo Campos Jr. (37:01.6) and Cole Gilbreath (38:30.7) in 75th and 76th respectively.

Running individually for the women's team was freshman Jessica Sanchez (24:05.4) who ended in 47th place out of 64 total runners. She was followed closely by Vanielis Ramos (24:11.0), finishing just behind in 48th. Reyanna Troupe (29.26.4) was the third and final individual competing for the women, ending in 60th place.

That concludes the cross country season for both teams as the Warriors earn their best finish in The Sun Conference Championships on the men's side since 2018.
