BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 2, 2019) – Senior
Megan Warner of the Webber International University women's soccer team was honored as a part of the 2019 Academic All-America NAIA Women's Soccer First-Team as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday, December 2. Warner was one of four midfielders on the first-team, was one of only five first-team selections to boast a perfect 4.0 grade point average, and becomes the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history for Webber.
Only 22 players in the NAIA make up the CoSIDA Academic All-America men's and women's soccer teams. To be eligible, a player must have one complete season at their institution with a minimum career GPA of 3.3 and be a starter or key reserve.
Warner, a native of Watford, England, who is majoring in sport business management at Webber, played both the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Warriors under Head Coach
Brian Fallon. She led the team both in goals scored and in total points during both of her years in Babson Park, Florida.
She started all 15 matches this season in 2019 and started all but one of her 31 total matches in a Warrior uniform.
In addition to helping Webber women's soccer reach the six-win mark in a season for only the second time in five years in 2019, Warner also finished off her senior season with nine goals and four assists (22 points), which combined with her seven goals and two assists as a junior gives her a combined 38 points during her two-year career as a Warrior.
Warner has also made the Dean's List during all three of her semesters at Webber so far. Community service projects the Warriors have helped with during Warner's tenue include making a meal for the local fire station in Babson Park and volunteering at the Give Kids the World Village.
"I cannot say enough about how proud we are of Megan," said Head Women's Soccer Coach
Brian Fallon. "She has been an enormous contributor to our program over the last two years and certainly a model student-athlete. We are excited that she has received this award. It is awesome to see one of our athletes get awarded not only for their athletic ability, but for their success in the classroom as well. We look forward to seeing Megan do even bigger things after she graduates."
The 2019 Academic All-America program, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The NAIA Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 NAIA Academic All-America teams.
