BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's soccer is set for two matches in seven days this week. The Warriors open the week, Tuesday, October 6 at 3 p.m. hosting Nova Southeastern. Webber International then hits the road for a match against conference opponent USC – Beaufort, Saturday, October 11.
The Girl on Fire
Senior forward Cierra Abundez has been fantastic in 2015. Abundez has netted at least one goal in four of the Warriors six games this season, totaling a team-best nine goals thus far. Abundez netted back-to-back hat tricks to open the season against Eckerd and Johnson & Wales. Abundez has also tallied a team-high three assist. Her nine goals and three assists account for 75% of the Warriors offensive output this season.
Last Time Out
Webber International went 1-1 last week in two home conference match ups.
Against Thomas, the Warriors played great, posting a dominate 4-0 victory. The first half was tightly contested but in the 43rd minute, Abundez played a great ball to Jenna Murphy, who broke the deadlock. Webber International's offense took off in the second half, netting three goals. Abundez powered the attack, scoring a goal and assisting on another, securing the win for the Warriors
The Warriors closed the week out against (RV) SCAD. The Warriors and the Bees played a high-intensity match, seeing 29 shoots and five goals in the game.
Abundez put the Warriors ahead early with her eighth goal of the season. SCAD was able to equalize in the 38th minute sending the teams into half time tied at 1-1. Both offenses played well in the second half. Late in the second half, the Bees were able to score two unanswered goals to go ahead, 3-1. A two-point deficit did not deter the Warriors as they continued to push for goals. Multiple tight offside calls stifled the Warriors offense that was still able to fire off nine shots. With time running out, Abundez has able to net her second goal of the game, but the Warriors fell just short of a comeback.
