BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's soccer is set for three road matches this week, including two Sun Conference match ups. The Warriors open the week, Tuesday, against St. Leo. Webber International then travels south to Miami for matches against Florida Memorial and St. Thomas, Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
Last Time Out
The Warriors are coming off two tough losses last week. Webber International hosted Nova Southeastern, last Tuesday, falling to the Sharks, 5-2, after holding a 2-0 lead at half time. The Warriors then traveled north to take on USCB, losing out to the Sand Sharks, 4-3.
The Girl on Fire
Senior forward Cierra Abundez has been fantastic in 2015. Abundez has netted at least one goal in six of the Warriors eight games this season, totaling a team-best 11 goals thus far. Abundez netted back-to-back hat tricks to open the season against Eckerd and Johnson & Wales. Abundez has also tallied a team-high three assist. Her 11 goals and three assists account for 50% of the Warriors offensive output this season.
About St. Leo
The Lions are 5-5-1 this season and hold a 2-3 mark in the SSC. St. Leo snapped a three-game losing streak with a road victory over Palm Beach Atlantic last week.
The Lion offense is led by Arielle Kabangu, who owns a team-best 17 points on seven goals and three assists.
About Florida Memorial
The Lions hold a 1-9 overall record and are winless in the Sun Conference. After defeating Trinity Baptist early in the season, Florida Memorial has dropped eight-consecutive matches.
Petrice Brooks paces the Lion offense with six goals this season.
About St. Thomas
The Bobcats own a 6-5 overall record and are 3-2 in Sun Conference play. St. Thomas has won three of the last five matches, positing shutouts in those victories.
The Bobcats offense is led by Sarah Lyppert-Thomsson and Sharon Tejeda. Lyppert-Thomsson leads the team with six goals, while Tejeda has scored five goals of her own and owns a team-best four assists.
