Babson Park, FL. On Friday night, the WIU Lady Warriors Volleyball team matched up against the #7 ranked Embry Riddle Lady Eagles. In a tough 5 set match, the Lady Warriors took the #7 Lady Eagles to the brink only to come up short losing 2-3 (15-25, 23-25, 25-21,25-19, 10-15).
The #7 Lady Eagles came out strong in the first set, dominating the Lady Warriors on the court. The Lady Warriors bounced back in set two to come up just shy, but gaining a lot of momentum. In sets three and four, the Lady Warriors defense locked down and shut down the Lady Eagles holding them to a season low hitting percentage, .000% and .022%. In the deciding 5
th set, the Lady Eagles bounced back to take an early lead while the Lady Warriors scratched back only to fall just short.
Junior Opposite
Karimah Hay lead the Lady Warriors with 13 kills and added 13 digs on defense to record the double double. Freshman Outside
Breanna Evoy followed Hay with 12 kills and added 12 digs of her own to also record a double double. Junior Setter
Katie Lindstrom paced the Lady Warriors attack with 39 assist and tallied 14 digs in the match to record her own double-double. Junior Middle
Shauna Brown added 6 kills on a .429% hitting percentage; followed closely by Junior Middle
Candace Doren who had 5 kills on a .231% hitting percentage. Freshman Shanice Vander Sloot came in the game and added quick energy hitting a .200% percent respectively.
Leading the Lady Warriors defense was Sophomore Libero
Tanner Garbutt with 20 digs in the contest. As a team, the Lady Warriors had 74 digs and 9 total blocks to shut down and slow down the #7 Lady Eagles. With the lose, the Lady Warriors fall to 13-8, 4-1 TSC while the Lady Eagles improve to 16-4, 4-0 TSC.
The WIU Lady Warriors will be back in action when they host Broward College in a scrimmage match on Thursday October 18
th at 7:00 pm in the Sabbaugh Center.
