MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Webber International University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Florida Memorial University on Saturday afternoon, winning 25-23, 25-9 and 25-14 to improve to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Warriors opened the match with a competitive first set before pulling away late to secure a 25-23 victory. Webber carried that momentum into the second set, dominating from start to finish with a 25-9 win. The Warriors closed out the match with another strong performance in the third set, earning a 25-14 victory.
Cristina Marrero led Webber offensively with nine kills while hitting .467 on the afternoon. Ninette Romero Lopez added seven kills, while Yaleesmar Rivera Rosa recorded six kills.
Webber finished the match with 39 kills and a .318 hitting percentage while limiting Florida Memorial to a .092 hitting percentage. The Warriors also recorded 13 service aces, 35 assists and 37 digs.
Lucianna Marinella paced the Warriors with 15 assists, three service aces and eight digs. Katelyn Bobo contributed 12 assists, while Alejandra Aponte added five assists, two aces and eight digs.
Webber's serving game proved to be a major difference-maker, with Marinella recording three aces and Samantha Gomez and Aponte each adding two.
The Warriors also received contributions from Brianna Adams, who recorded five kills while hitting .444, and Kalyn Morgan, who added two kills, one ace and one block.
Up Next: Webber returns to action on Wednesday, September 23, when the Warriors travel to Lakeland, Fla., to take on Southeastern University. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
