Webber Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Win Over Baptist University of Florida
BABSON PARK, Fla. — The Webber International University women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Baptist University of Florida on Thursday afternoon at Jessica Costanzo Court at the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Warriors won by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-16 and 25-21.
Webber opened the match with a strong offensive performance in the first set, recording 12 kills while hitting .171 as a team. Kalyn Morgan led the Warriors with four kills in the opening frame, while Yaleesmar Rivera Rosa added three kills. Webber took control late in the set to secure the 25-18 victory.
Baptist University of Florida responded in the second set, but Webber remained competitive throughout the frame. The Warriors recorded nine kills and 15 digs before Baptist claimed the set, 25-19, evening the match at 1-1.
Webber regained momentum in the third set, hitting .250 with 12 kills. Rivera Rosa recorded four kills in the set, while Morgan and Hailey Mull each added three. The Warriors pulled away to take the third set, 25-16, and regain the match lead.
The Warriors closed out the match in the fourth set with another strong offensive showing, hitting .244 while recording 15 kills. Morgan paced Webber with four kills, while Brianna Adams added three. Webber held off a late push to claim the set, 25-21, and secure the 3-1 victory.
Morgan led Webber offensively with 10 kills, while Rivera Rosa finished with nine kills and Mull and Adams each recorded seven. Adams also led the Warriors with three blocks.
Defensively, Alejandra Aponte recorded a match-high 21 digs, while Morgan added 19. Samantha Gomez contributed eight digs, and Katelyn Bobo and Lucianna Marinella each recorded eight and four digs, respectively.
Marinella directed the Webber offense with 23 assists, while Bobo added 16 assists. Marinella, Aponte and Naylim Andrews each recorded two service aces. As a team, Webber finished with 48 kills, 45 assists, 68 digs and six blocks.
With the victory, Webber improves to 8-7 overall on the season.
Up Next: Webber International returns to action on Saturday, September 26, when the Warriors compete in a tri-match in Temple Terrace, Fla. Webber will face Pensacola Christian College at 3 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. matchup against Florida College.
