Warriors Drop Game One to the Gyrenes

Ave Maria, FL – The Webber International softball team battled through game one of the Sun Conference series against the Ave Maria Gyrenes. After a tough fight, AMU took game one 11-3. 

The Gyrenes struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brandy Barquin put one on base with a leadoff walk, but the Warriors were unable to bring across any runs.  

AMU brought one more across in the bottom of the 2nd inning off a sacrifice fly to left field, before a double play put the Warriors back on offense.  

Alycia Celia got things rolling in the top of the 3rd inning with a two-out infield single. Gracie Lopez put two on by beating out a slow roller to the second baseman. The Gyrenes were able to get out of the inning without the Warriors scoring.  

Megan Hoskins came in the bottom of the 3rd inning to pitch for the Warriors. AMU got two on before third baseman, Johnkiria Bland, grabbed out number one. Haley Saylor grabbed out number two, before Thalia Romero ended the inning scoreless with a catch and tag on first. 

Romero followed her defense with a leadoff triple to right center field. A Gyrene error put two aboard, scoring Romero. Haley Saylor tripled to right center, scoring Dominica Kohout. A Kylie Bright sac bunt scored Saylor, cutting the Gyrenes' lead to one.  

AMU responded with a run of their own to keep a two-run lead heading into the 5th inning. Romero waited on a five-pitch walk to put one on with two outs. The Gyrenes got the final out, keeping their lead. A two-out RBI double adds another run for Ave as they led three heading into the 6th inning. 

AMU brought in five more in the bottom of the 6th inning to extend their lead to eight, ending the game in six.  

The Warriors will be back tomorrow to battle through games two and three of the series against the Gyrenes starting at 12 PM.
