Lake Wales, FL – The Webber International Softball team dropped a 3-0 SUN Conference decision to Warner on Friday afternoon at Daly Field, with all three runs coming in the opening inning. After that early damage, Taylor Thomas settled in and kept the Royals off the board the rest of the way, but the Warriors were unable to find the timely hit needed to climb back into the game.
Warner used a first-inning push to take control, scoring three times on four hits while also benefiting from a Webber error. Jillian Hudson delivered a two-run single in the frame, and Lauren Fernald added an RBI single to put the Royals in front 3-0 before the Warriors could record the final out of the inning.
From there, Thomas gave Webber a chance by turning in a strong outing in the circle despite the tough-luck loss. She went all 6.0 innings, allowed seven hits and three runs, none of them earned, while striking out six. Thomas retired Warner in order in the third and fifth innings and held the Royals scoreless across the final five frames.
Offensively, the Warriors were limited to three hits, with Sami Franz leading the way by going 2-for-2. Thalia Romero added a double, while Webber also drew walks from Sommer Zier-Norris and Emma Newgent. Franz and Romero accounted for all three of Webber's hits, but the Warriors stranded four runners and were unable to break through against Warner starter Elle Hernandez, who tossed a complete-game shutout.
