Box Score 2 Sarasota, FL - The Webber International softball team traveled to take on the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans for a mid-week matchup. The Warriors dominated the Mighty Banyans in both games, out scoring them 15-1.
STRONG WARRIORS DEFENSE BLANKS NCOF
Chloe Rayner notched her third win of the season as she pitched seven shutout innings. The sophomore struck out three batters, and only allowed seven batters on through seven innings.
Brandy Barquin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Warriors on offense. Paige Weinmann added two hits and a run in two at bats. Thalia Romero and Johnkiria Bland remained consistent, adding both hits and runs in game one.
Gracie Lopez got things rolling with a lead off bunt. Romero followed with a one-out double. An error by NCOF allowed Lopez to score, giving the Warriors an early 1-0 lead. A single and stolen base for Bland put runners in scoring position, as the big bat of Brandy Barquin stepped up. Barquin doubled up the middle, bringing in a run. Nicole Gutierrez made it a 3-0 game with a ground out to second base.
Two ground outs and a line out kept the Mighty Banyans from cutting the gap.
After six scoreless innings, Paige Weinmann singled through the middle to lead off the top of the 7th inning. A single for Romero put runners on the corners with no outs. Bland extended the Warriors' lead to four with a single to left center field. Another Barquin single coupled with a stolen base made it 6-0. Rayner closed the show in the bottom of the 7th inning with two strikeouts and a ground out.
GRANDSLAM FROM BELLAMY SECURES WIN OVER MIGHTY BANYANS
Abbigayle Ellison notched her first start of the season as she pitched a complete game, only allowing one run on six hits.
Johnkiria Bland hit her career record of home runs in a season, as she garnered her third. Hailey Bellamy hit a nuke over the left field wall for her first collegiate home run, which was a grand slam.
The Warriors struck first with a Barquin run in the top of the first inning.
A two-out rally in the top of the 5th broke up four blank innings. Back-to-back singles for Barquin and Romero set Bland up for a 3 RBI home run over the left field wall to extend the Warriors' lead to four.
NCOF got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to three.
Webber responded with five insurance runs in the top of the 7th inning, as Ellison closed the game with another scoreless inning.
The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow night as they head across the Crooked Lake to battle SUNC foes Warner at 5 PM.
