Warriors Return from SUN Championships in Gainesville

Gainesville, FL – The Webber International Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed at the SUN Conference Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors competed well in all events across the weekend.

Noelani Callender, Kate Thegenus, and Alohnna-Elyse Lee competed in the 60-meter dash for Webber. Callender and Thegenus both placed in the top 20 with times of 9.09 and 8.59 respectively. Lee raced a 7.91 in the prelims, which was enough to get her into the finals, where she also ran 7.91, good enough for seventh place. Terralyn Brockington competed in the high and long jumps. She placed seventh in the high jump with a 1.35 meter jump, and tenth in the long jump with a 4.70-meter jump. Lee also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing sixth with a time of 26.02. Xaniah Williams competed in the triple jump, placing third with her longest jump being 11.13 meters. Brockington placed eighth in the triple jump with a 9.70. Anna Beth Gonzalez was the final woman to compete for Webber in the shot put and weight throws. She placed top 20 in the shot put with a throw of 7.90 meters and top 15 with an 8.93 weight throw.

Amare Williams and Kaleb Tankard competed in the 60-meter dash for the men, Williams again qualified for the finals with a 6.83, while Tankard placed top 20 with a 7.19. Marcus Higgins, Kaleb Roth, Jaiden Morris, and Josiah Williams all ran the 400 for Webber. Higgins placed fifth with a 49.99, Roth eleventh with a 50.52, Morris fourteenth with a 51.43, and J. Williams nineteenth with a 52.23. Michael Granados and Carter Reynolds both competed in the 1000-meter run. They placed thirteenth and fourteenth with 3:11.49, and 3:24.88. Andrew Rodriguez placed fourteenth in the 5000-meter run, with a time of 17:14.23. The Men's Distance Medley team of Cameron Gonzalez, Seth Sawyer, Masqal Pierre and Derick Gomez placed third with a time of 11:31.12. James Andrews placed eighth in the high jump, with his highest jump being 1.82 meters. Javien Lawson and Deryke Dennard competed in the shot put. Lawson placed eighth with his best throw traveling 12.08 meters. Dennard placed fourteenth with his best throw going 10.26 meters.

Williams and Tankard both also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing third and thirteenth with a 21.86 and 22.84 respectively. Sawyer placed sixth in the 600-meter run with a 1:23.41 while Pierre placed twelfth with a 1:29.19. Gomez competed in the mile, placing fourteenth with a time of 4:56.45. Rodriguez placed nineteenth with a 5:01.15, while Granados placed twenty-first with a time of 5:28.38. Rodriguez also competed in the 3000-meter run, placing thirteenth with a 9:45.62. Andrews also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, placing eighth in the finals with a time of 8.79. The Men's 4x4 team of Williams, Roth, Higgins, and Fabio Justo Villar placed third with a time of 3:18.13. The 4x8 team of Sawyer, Pierre, Gomez, and J. Williams placed fourth with an 8:41.80. Jaime Ortiz placed fourth in the pole vault with his highest vault at 3.55 meters. Dennard and Lawson also competed in the weight throw, as Dennard placed eleventh with a 9.57, and Lawson thirteenth with a 7.65.

Overall the Webber Women placed seventh in the conference while the Webber men placed fifth, over Warner and Florida Memorial.

The Warriors will be back in action at the NAIA Indoor Championships, February 29th through March 2nd.
