GAINESVILLE, Fla. (January 31, 2023) - The Webber International University men's and women's track & field teams traveled once again to Gainesville, Florida for their second and final indoor meet prior to the conference championships this past Friday.
Sophomore
Niesha Aldajuste had an outstanding day as she finished second in the weight throw with a personal best of 15.48m. Her throw is first in The Sun Conference and 33rd in the NAIA. Aldajuste also placed seventh overall in shot put which places her third in the conference. Junior
Destinee Alford continues to show improvement in both throws and is poised to challenge for all-conference honors. For the high jump,
Tessa Shriver finished with a personal best of 1.47m to qualify for the conference meet.
On the men's side, all throwers are freshmen this year and continue to steadily improve as the year progresses.
Rhet Conyers,
Deryke Dennard, and
Kaden Mizell all achieved marks that will qualify them for the conference meet. In the high jump, freshman
Anthony White made his first appearance, finishing with a mark of 1.78m which qualifies him for the conference meet as well.
On the runways, juniors
Xaniah Williams and
Abigail Leuthold continue their good form while junior
Alexandrea Gaetz had a big personal best of 4.95m in the long jump.
Freshman
Darrien Smith impressed in the 400m while Micah Grooms performed well in the 600m. Many seasonal bests were turned in by the rest of the sprint corps as well. On the distance side, Wyatt Friend and
Andrew Rodriguez both ran college bests at the one mile and 5000m respectively.
Both teams are now looking forward towards The Sun Conference Indoor Championships which will take place in Birmingham, Alabama on Monday, February 6th.
