BABSON PARK, Fla. (August 26, 2022) – The Webber International University football team is geared and ready for year two under the reign of Head Coach
Eric Potochney.
Â
The Warriors finished the 2021 season with an overall record of 2-8 and ended tied for fifth place in the Mid-South Conference. This year, football returns to The Sun Conference and the Warriors were selected to finish tied for sixth place with Florida Memorial University.
Â
A key returner on the offensive side of the ball for the Warriors is senior-running back
Tremon Bright who was an All-Conference selection last year after rushing for over 1,000 yards. He will be fueled by a mostly veteran offensive line and will be in his second season under Offensive Coordinator, DJ Croley's system. Wide receiver
Jacob Moss is another key returner for Webber's offense after gathering over 500 yards receiving and seven touchdowns last year. He is the go-to receiver for senior-quarterback
Cody Braden.
Â
Defensively, Webber returns a strong secondary led by senior-defensive back
Trent Peacock who is extremely versatile and able to help on both sides of the ball.
Devonte Harris and
Joseph Burton were the two leading tacklers for the Warriors last season with 68 and 65 total tackles respectively and both return for the 2022 season. Between those three, Webber brings back three of its four leading tacklers from last season.
Â
"This team has made a lot of progress on the process to mentally and physically prepare for the season," said Head Coach
Eric Potochney. "The key for this team's success is to stay focused on every opportunity that is in front of us. This is a very talented football team with loads of potential. We have to continue working on learning to play together and our ability to go finish. We had a great fall camp and we are excited to get on the field and compete. #BeForTheTeam"
