BABSON PARK, Fla. (June 28, 2022) – Director of Athletics,
Brad Niethammer, announced on Tuesday the hiring of
Todd Buckingham as the Webber International University softball team's new head coach.
Â
"We are excited to have Todd as our next Head Softball Coach," Niethammer said about the hiring. "He brings an impressive resume to Babson Park having coached at a variety of levels in the past. With his leadership, knowledge of the game, and enthusiasm, we are looking forward to our softball program's continued success."
Â
Buckingham spent the previous two seasons as the assistant coach at NCAA Division-I Western Michigan University. At WMU, he served as the primary recruiter, hitting instructor, and outfielders coach.
Â
Prior to his two-year stint at WMU, Buckingham accumulated 479 career wins over the previous 19 years. He served as Head Coach at Saginaw Valley State (Division-II) for eight seasons. In that time, he won a GLIAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regionals twice.
Â
Prior to that he was the Head Coach at fellow NAIA-member Indiana University Southeast for six seasons, winning either a conference regular season title or conference tournament title every year. The program also earned three trips to the NAIA World Series during his tenure.
Â
Buckingham began his coaching career at NCAA Division-II Bluefield State College where he served as the Head Coach for five seasons, taking a program that had not won a conference game in six seasons and turned it into a 30-win per year program.
Â
Buckingham has received Conference Coach of the Year awards on three different occasions, one NAIA Regional Coach of the Year award, and coached numerous All-Conference, All-Regional, and All-American student-athletes.
Â
"I am honored to be named the Head Coach here at Webber International University," said Buckingham. "The amount of support for the program at the university and throughout the community make this a premier NAIA destination and a privilege to be a part of. I am really looking forward to meeting the members of the team, getting to know them as individuals, and helping them all grow together to maintain the championship culture that is presently established. I want to thank Mr.
Brad Niethammer for giving me this opportunity and my wife and I cannot wait to begin this new chapter of our life in the Sunshine State!"
