Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 13, 2022) - The Webber International University women's lacrosse team hosted No. 3 Life University on Saturday afternoon in what was the home and conference opener for the Warriors. The Warriors had a great start to the game but ultimately, the Running Eagles proved to be too much in a 21-8 defeat.
The Warriors (0-2 overall, 0-1 MSC) started very well, as
Bryce Gerber would score the first goal of the game less than a minute in. Roughly two minutes later, the Warriors would double their lead after a man-up goal from
Samantha Esher. Just nine seconds after the restart, Gerber would score another to give Webber an early 3-0 lead. A minute later, Life (1-1, 1-0) would score its first goal of the game but the Warriors would respond with yet another goal, this time from
Courtnie Couch to regain the three-goal lead at 4-1 with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter. The Running Eagles would begin to find their footing, however, as they would score four times in the final six and a half minutes of the quarter to take a 5-4 lead heading into quarter number two.
Life would start the second quarter as they ended the first, scoring five goals in the first five and a half minutes.
Natalie Baumgarten would score her first goal of the season on an assist from Esher with just under nine minutes to go until halftime, with the Warriors trailing 10-5. The Running Eagles would score three more times before it would be roles reversed with Baumgarten turning supplier for another goal from Esher. Life would score three more yet again in the final five and a half minutes to take a resounding 16-6 lead at halftime.
Webber would be held scoreless in the third quarter as Life would tack on four more to make it 20-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Life would score one more at the beginning of the fourth and the Warriors would score the final two goals of the game, first from
Kaitlyn Patterson and then a goal from
Raelynn Bellamy, the first goal of the season for both players.
The Warriors have just a one-day break before hosting the No. 1 Keiser University Seahawks in yet another conference matchup on Monday, February 14th, at 4 p.m. on the Warrior Turf Field.
