KU set the tone early with an aggressive attack, scoring three quick goals within the first five minutes. MacKenzie Gibaud opened the scoring, followed by goals from Samantha Esher and Hayley Frew. Despite WIU's attempts to push forward, they struggled against KU's high-pressure defense, committing multiple turnovers. WIU goalie Jordyn Davidson made several crucial saves, but the relentless KU offense continued to find ways to capitalize.
KU extended their lead to 7-0 by the end of the first period, with key contributions from Baylee Walker, Isabelle Vrensen, and Milena Isturiz. WIU had a brief scoring opportunity with a free position shot, but KU goalie Raelyn Boutwell made a key save.
The second period saw KU continue their dominance, adding five more goals to push their lead to 12-0. WIU fought to get on the board, but their offensive struggles persisted as they failed to convert on free position opportunities.
In the third period, KU continued their scoring spree, increasing their lead to 16-1 before WIU finally broke through. Courtnie Couch scored WIU's first goal of the game on a man-up opportunity, assisted by Haley Leavines. However, KU quickly responded with more goals, bringing the score to 18-1 by the start of the final period.
Despite WIU's attempts to regain momentum, KU's relentless attack kept them on the defensive. Goals from Jia Schweigert, Milena Isturiz, and Baylee Walker sealed the dominant performance. WIU managed one final goal late in the game from Natalie Baumgarten, but it was far too little to overcome KU's overwhelming lead.
