BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 23, 2020) – Junior Colton Cormier of the Webber International University football team has been named Mid-South Conference Sun Division Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, November 22. It is Cormier's third such honor of the season and is the fourth of his career.

Cormier finished with 14 total tackles, nine solo tackles, two tackles for a loss of five yards, and had his first career interception during the Warriors' 31-13 loss in their 2020 season finale at St. Thomas on Saturday, November 21. The 14 combined tackles are the most in a single game by any player in the Mid-South Conference Sun Division all season long.

In addition to being named defensive player of the week for the final week of the season (week 10), Cormier was also named player of the week back during the very first week of the season, and then again during the eighth week.

Webber's Defensive Coordinator Eric Potochney said, "Colton is a smart and instinctive player. He is a true competitor and a great leader on our defense."

In eight games this season, Cormier recorded double-digit tackles four times, including a total of 12 tackles or more during each of Webber's final three games of the season to lead the team each week. He finished his junior campaign with 75 tackles in all, including 55 solo tackles.

Cormier also added seven tackles for a loss 37 yards on the season, and had three sacks totaling 28 yards. Last but not least, he had one fumble recovery and one interception. It was a new career high in solo tackles, tackles for loss and in sacks for the linebacker from Naples, Florida.

Cormier finished the season ranked first in the Mid-South Conference Sun Division and 16th in all of the NAIA in tackles per game at 9.4, and was third in the Sun Division and 46th in the NAIA in total sacks. In the Sun Division, Cormier was also third in total tackles for loss.
