BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2019) – The Webber International University junior varsity baseball team started the midway point of its 2019 season with a 12-3 win over its Crooked Lake rival Warner University, and then the Warriors used that momentum to take down Platinum Baseball Academy by a score of 6-3 before falling to a strong NJCAA team from Illinois, Lincoln Land Community College, 9-4.

Webber is now 3-8 overall on the season as all three of the Warriors' games over the past two weeks have come at home on the Heart of Florida Baseball Field.

Webber vs. Warner University (Monday, Feb. 25; Babson Park, Fla.):
  • Final Score: Webber 12, Warner 3.
  • "We played our best all-around game of the year so far," said Head Coach Matt Saliba. "Our pitching was great all night. Jose Santiago gave up a couple of runs early but then settled in and pitched a great game for us. He earned his second win of the year on the mound. Jason Rewis came in after him and threw three scoreless innings. Rewis has been very consistent his last few outings and he is getting better each time out. Joseph Creamons closed it out for us in the ninth and helped us seal the 12-3 victory. Our bats were hot all night and everyone in the lineup was having quality at bats which resulted in those 12 runs."
  • Hitting Stats:
  • Pitching Stats:
    • Jose Santiago – five innings pitched with six strikeouts, two walks and three earned runs allowed while also earning the win.
    • Jason Rewis – three innings pitched with three strikeouts and zero runs allowed.
    • Joseph Creamons – one inning pitched with two strikeouts and zero runs allowed.

Webber vs. Platinum Baseball Academy (Wednesday, March 6; Babson Park, Fla.):
  • Final Score: Webber 6, Platinum Baseball Academy 3.
  • "We played a very clean baseball game defensively and offensively which I was very pleased with," spoke Head Coach Matt Saliba. "We walked too many guys on the mound but we were able to pitch out of some situations and that allowed us to hold the lead. Jose Santiago got his third win of the season and has given us good consistent starts each time out. Joseph Creamons was very solid in relief and was able to keep their lineup off balance while being able to throw all of his pitches for strikes. I was also very pleased with the way our hitters continued to add runs once the game got close. Our lineup as a whole is starting to come together and we are producing runs and having better at bats each game."
  • Hitting Stats:
    • Orlando Pena – 2-for-5 with a run scored.
    • Taylor Byrd – walked three times and scored a run.
    • Tyler Buckner – 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
    • Keyon Floyd – 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
    • Alex Contreras – 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored.
    • Nick Videll – 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Pitching Stats:
    • Jose Santiago - five innings pitched with five walks, eight strikeouts and one run allowed.
    • Jason Rewis – 1.1 innings pitched with two walks, one strikeout and two runs allowed.
    • Joseph Creamons – 2.2 innings pitched with two strikeouts and zero runs allowed.

Webber vs. Lincoln Land Community College (Thursday, March 7; Babson Park, Fla.):
  • Final Score: Webber 4, LLCC 9.
  • "It was a close game until the seventh inning," concluded Head Coach Matt Saliba. "Austin Seeman gave us a great start and was very effective the whole night. He was locating his fastball to both sides of the plate, and throwing his off speed for strikes. I was very happy with the way that he pitched. Ty English also looked very well on the mound and his command was the best that it has been all year. Other than that, we made way too many defensive mistakes and it led to the score of the game getting away from us. We couldn't do enough offensively either in order to stay in the game past the seventh inning. If we eliminate a big seventh inning, then I believe it is a much closer game and we would have had a chance to win. We are moving on though and we have five games next week, so there are plenty of opportunities to get some more wins."
  • Hitting Stats:
    • Taylor Byrd – 3-for-5 with a run scored.
    • Luis Besteiro – 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
    • Luis Inoa – 2-for-4 with an RBI.
    • Caden Borders – 1-for-2 with an RBI.
  • Pitching Stats:
    • Austin Seeman – six innings pitched with three strikeouts and three runs allowed.
    • Daniel Recinos – one inning pitched with five runs allowed, three of which were earned.
    • Ty English – two innings pitched with three strikeouts and one run allowed.
