BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 24, 2019) – The third and fourth weeks of the 2019 Webber International University junior varsity baseball season featured the first win of the 2019 season for the Warriors, a 13-7 victory over Inspiration Academy on Monday, February 18, in Babson Park, Florida.

The Warriors' other two games over the past two weeks came on the road as Webber fell in a close 6-4 game at Warner University on Monday, February 11, and fought well before falling 11-6 against a tough NJCAA Polk Stat College squad on Tuesday, February 19. Webber is now 1-7 overall on the season with four straight home games against Warner (Feb. 25), Platinum Baseball Academy (March 6), Lincoln Land Community College (March 7) and Inspiration Academy (March 11) on the horizon.

  • Words from Coach Matt Saliba: "We are starting to play better, but once we have a lead, we just have to do a better job of throwing up zero's on the mound and defensively. That was the deciding factor in this game."

Webber vs. Inspiration Academy (Monday, Feb. 18; Babson Park, Fla.):
  • Final Score: Webber 13, Inspiration Academy 7.
  • The bats woke up as the Warriors scored early on to give starting pitcher Jose Santiago some run support to work with.
  • Hitting Stats:
  • Pitching Stats:
    • Santiago gave up two runs in the first inning but then settled in and threw five scoreless innings after that to earn himself and the team the first win of the season.
    • Jason Rewis threw two very good scoreless innings.
    • Ty English did not have his command and gave up four runs.
    • Nick Videll closed it out only giving up one run to seal Webber's first victory.
  • Words from Coach Matt Saliba: "Getting our first win really gave us some confidence and some guys on the mound and at the plate are feeling more comfortable. We are looking to continue this momentum into the game against Polk State."

Webber at Polk State College (Tuesday, Feb. 19; Winter Haven, Fla.):
  • Final Score: Webber 6, Polk State 11.
  • Hitting Stats:
  • Words from Coach Matt Saliba: "The hitters did a good job against a talented Polk State pitching staff giving us six runs for our pitchers to work with. We had a lead for a few innings but were not able to keep Polk off of the scoreboard. Joseph Creamons threw a scoreless eighth inning but other than that, Austin Seeman didn't have his best stuff like he is capable of and we gave up some runs early and we lost 11-6. Polk has some good hitters and we had to do a good job of hitting spots and getting ahead in counts for us to be successful and we didn't do that. We will bounce back and be ready to play Warner on Monday."
