Webber Softball Suffers Series Sweep By Ave Maria

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Warriors played every game close and stood their ground, unfortunately in the end, the series went to Ave Maria.


GAME 1: Borders Launches Her 5th Homer of the Year

Webber found themselves trailing 3-0 following the top of the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, Brandi Hazen hit a single a scored Cassidy Roberts. Then in the bottom of the 4th, the Warriors got 1-run closer as (YaYa) Laura Borders hit a solo homerun cutting the lead to just 1, 3-2. Webber only left 5 runners on the base the entire game while throwing up 7 hits as a team. Just in the end could not get the last run to tie as they fell 3-2 in the first game of the series.

STATLINE: Cassidy Roberts was the only multi-hit candidate as she went 2-3 with a run scored. Brandi Hazen was 1-3 with 1 RBI. Laura Borders was 1-3 with a solo homerun and a run scored. Naomi Spurgeon was great off the mound only allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs off of 7 innings of work while striking out 3.


GAME 2: Isoba and Borders Homer Back-To-Back, Hazen Hits Homerun

Webber was on the verge of losing a run rule as they found themselves down 8-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning. The Warriors used the bottom of the 5th to score 6 runs a few singles group together scored 2 runs cutting the lead to 8-2. Megan Isoba then approached with a 2-out, runners on 2nd and 3rd situation and launched a monster shot out to right field that left the yard for a 3-run homer. Now with the Warriors only trailing 8-5, Laura Borders sent a ball deep to right field in the same spot as Isoba for a solo homerun and making it a 2-run game. Ave Maria hit a solo homerun in the top of the 7th extending to a 9-6 lead. Then in the bottom of the 7th, Brandi Hazen dug in and hit a line drive homerun over the center field fence. Unfortunately for the Warriors the late charge was not enough as the Gyrenes took game 2 with a final score of 9-7.
 
STATLINE: Brandi Hazen was a force ot be reckon with as she went 2-2 with 2 walks, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Megan Isoba went 1-4 with a 3-run homerun. Laura Borders hit her second homerun in a row going 1-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Dariyen Moss came in to throw the last half of the game and threw 3.2 innings only giving up 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 2.

 
GAME 3: Atkinson Hits 2 Doubles, Warriors Held To Just 4 Hits

Both teams threw up 1 run in the first inning. The Warriors got theirs by Laura Borders singling in Brandi Hazen for an RBI. The score stayed knotted at 1-1 until the top of the 5th when Ave's Mosher hit a 3-run homerun that gave the Gyrenes a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, with bases loaded, Victoria Atkinson hit a double that scored Alyssa Householder and Ka'Deisha McCowen cutting the lead to just 4-3. Again the Warriors could not find that final run as they dropped game 3 to the Gyrenes with a final score of 4-3.

STATLINE: Victoria Atkinson led the way going 3-2 with 2 RBI's. Brandi Hazen was 0-1 but drew 2 walks. Laura Borders sent in the final RBI going 1-3 and swiping a bag.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Webber International dropped to 11-18 on the year and 2-13 in the Sun Conference with this weekend's series sweep. They will play their final home series of the year against Warner University with a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m. and a single game, also "Senior day", on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled at 4:00 p.m.
