Webber Softball Falls To Thomas In Last Series Of The 2017 Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International softball ended an unfortunate 13-22 season with a conference series loss to Thomas University. The Warriors took game 1 beating the Night Hawks 8-4. Lost game 2, 14-1. Then fought hard until the end of game 3 but unfortunately took a 3-2 loss to finish out the series.

The Warriors took game 1 of the series with Brandi Hazen going 2 for 3 with a solo homerun and her 6th of the year. Kaitlin Cockroft went 3 for with a double and 2 RBI's. Laura Borders was 2-4 with 2 RBI's and Victoria Atkinson was 2-4with 1 RBI. Naomi Spurgeon was brilliant on the mound as she threw a complete game giving up 8 hits and 4 runs while striking out 3.

Game 2, the Warriors found themselves on the unfortunate side of a 14-1 loss. Laura Borders led the way offensively going 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and extending her hitting streak to 10 straight games. Kaitlin Cockroft had her second multi-hit game in a row going 2 for 2. Ka'Deisha McCowen was 2 for 3 at the plate while scoring the lone run for the Warriors. Webber gave up 8 runs in the 1st inning, 6 runs in the 2nd inning before Brandi Hazen came in and pitched a 2 hit 2 1/3 innings to end out the game.

Game 3 was a close battle between both teams before the Night Hawks held off the Warriors 3-2. Brandi Hazen led the offense going 2 for 4 with a solo homerun, her 7th of the year. Kaitlin Cockroft finished strong with her 3rd multi-hit game in a row going 3 for 3. Spurgeon had another good outing but fell just shy of the win. She threw the complete 6 innings only giving up 3 runs off 6 hits.
