Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University took on the #3 Columbia College Cougars in a double header this afternoon. The Warriors split with the Cougars losing game one 7-0, then firing back in game 2 with a 5 run 6
th inning taking giving them the win 8-7.
GAME 1: Warriors 3 Hit By Welch
Webber had high hopes of taking two today from a top 5 team in the nation in #3 Columbia. The first game proved to be a huge test as the Warriors only managed to register 3 hits. Meanwhile, the Cougars managed to hit .500 for the game throwing up 15 hits and 7 runs off 2 homers. Columbia took game 1 7-0.
STAT LINE: Alyssa Householder and
Megan Isoba were 1-3 and
Meghan Lindell went 1-2 acocunting for the Warriors 3 hits. Unfortunately, the Cougars got to
Raven White early as she started and threw 2 innings surrendering 5 runs off 7 hits. She gave way to
Sabrina Hebding who then threw the final 5 innings giving up 2 runs and 8 hits.
GAME 2: Borders Hits 2-Run Shot, Moss Earns First Win, Warriors Snap Cougars 18-Game Win Streak
The 2
nd game of the double header was a completely different Warrior offense as they tagged the 11-0, 1.15 ERA McCroskie for 8 runs. The Cougars jumped out to a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 4
th and it was looking much like game 1. Until,
Laura Borders stepped up with
Aja Eglton on base and smacked a deep shot that left the yard out to center field. Not long after, with Warriors on 2
nd and 3
rd,
Alyssa Rodriguez scampered home on a wild pitch cutting the Cougar lead to just 2, 5-3. A couple of innings and singles later, the Cougars jumped back out to a 4 run lead 7-3. The bottom of the 6
th proved to be a huge inning for the Warriors. It all started with
Alyssa Householder singling in
Kaitlin Cockroft and
Alyssa Rodriguez.
Victoria Atkinson then hit a deep sacrifice fly ball that scored
Ka'Deisha McCowen. Then with base loaded full of Warriors and 2 outs,
Meghan Lindell strolled up and hit a soft line drive to left field for a base hit that scored
Aja Eglton and
Brandi Hazen completing the 5 run inning and giving Webber the 8-7 lead. Then
Dariyen Moss finished off the #3 Cougars in the top of the 7
th forcing a pop up to Rodriguez, a fly ball to Borders and a hard ground ball to Eglton to end the game 8-7 with a Warrior victory!
STAT LINE: Laura Borders led the offense with a 2-4, 2 RBI 2 runs scored effort with a homerun.
Meghan Lindell followed with a 2-4, 2 RBI effort of her own.
Alyssa Householder was 1-3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBI's and a walk. Starting pitcher for the Warriors was
Naomi Spurgeon, she threw 3.2 innings surrendering 3 earned runs off 7 hits. She gave way to
Dariyen Moss who ended up throwing 3.1 innings only giving up 2 earned runs off 3 hits and earning her first win of the year and her college career.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Webber will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. this weekend and take on Keiser University in a 3 game matchup of the Sun Conference. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 P.M. on Friday afternoon.
