BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 4, 2017) – The Webber International University men's junior varsity basketball team had the privilege of hosting the 2017 Sun Conference JV Men's Basketball Championship, and the Warriors were victorious over Ave Maria University by 10, 107-97, last Sunday on December 3 inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
In the championship game, Georges Dorvilien led the way with a game-high 30 points on four 3-pointers, and was followed by
Jabari Richardson with 25 points on three 3-pointers.
Next in scoring was
John Fuentes with 16 points, followed by
De'Tavious Campbell with 10,
Nasir Stewart-Muir with nine,
Gary Lacount with six and
Richie Santana and
Herman Robinson each with two.
'I'm really proud of how our team battled through adversity to win a conference championship," said winning coach
Brian Skelly. "It's not easy playing two games on the same day, and it speaks to the toughness of our guys that they were able to battle through their fatigue and come out with a victory. This is a special group of talented young men, and I'm very excited for the rest of our season."
In the semifinal matchup between the Webber JV white team and JV green team, the Webber white team was victorious again by 10, 79-69.
Richardson led the white team with 27 points on four three's, and was helped out by Dorvilien with 13, Fuentes with 12,
Kurstan Middlebrook with seven, Stewart-Muir with six and Lacount with four.
The green team was led in scoring by
Jawaun Stuckey, who took the ball hard to the rim on countless occasions en route to finishing with a very strong 32 points, 26 of which came in the second half. Next for the green team was
Billy Hicks with 14 points,
Jacob Kimbriel with 10,
Kenny McNeil with six, Robinson with five and
John Atkinson with two.
In the other semifinal matchup, Ave Mara defeated Warner University by a score of 75-64 to set up its bout with the Warriors.
