BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 14, 2017) – The Webber International University men's junior varsity basketball teams went 4-0 this weekend, first knocking off two IMG teams and then beating Saint Thomas University in their first conference games of the season.

Webber defeated IMG twice at home on Saturday, November 11, and then traveled to Miami Gardens, Florida, for two wins over the Saint Thomas Bobcats on Sunday, November 12. The JV white team has begun its 2017-18 season with a 3-1 record while the JV green team has started off at 3-2.

Versus IMG, the JV green team pulled out a close win (69-66) after being down nine points at the half. The Warriors exploded for 41 points in the second half, and IMG had a chance at a half-court buzzer beater to tie it, but missed short. The JV green team was led in scoring by Jacob Kimbriel, who scored 23 points (16 in the second half).

"We came out of halftime fired up and with a lot of energy," said Brady Beech, coach of the JV green team. "They played hard and made big shots down the stretch. I am very proud of the guy's effort, intensity and focus."

The JV white team's game versus IMG was not a close affair. Webber jumped out to an early lead which they never relinquished, winning by a final score of 96-67. The JV white team was lead in scoring by Georges Dorvilien, who had 22 points and was followed closely by Nasir Stewart-Muir, who produced 21 points.

Brian Skelly, the coach of the JV white team, said, "The guys came ready to play and played fast from the start. We had great defensive intensity which led to a lot of points in transition for us. We also did an awesome job of sharing the ball which led to open shots. This was definitely, the best game we've played as a team so far this year."

At Saint Thomas, a similar storyline developed as the JV green team pulled out a gritty win (61-54) in a physical game that went back and forth in the second half. Late in the game, the Warriors were aided by a clutch play down the stretch from Kenny McNeil, who hit a three and then stole an inbounds pass that led to a layup to give the Warriors a five-point cushion with only a few minutes left.

"I thought in the first half we gave up too many 50/50 balls, but after halftime, we did a much better job diving for loose balls and coming up with them when it mattered most," said Beech. Games like these show how tough our team is and that is a great quality to have with conference championships on the way."

The JV green team was led in scoring by Billy Hicks who had 16 points, while Kimbriel added 13 and Jawaun Stuckey chipped in 12 to the victory.

The JV white team also played Saint Thomas in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Sunday, and like the IMG game, the Warriors jumped out to an early lead which they never gave up.

"I think our length and speed defensively really bothered them and lead to layups and dunks for us," continued Skelly. "Offensively we did a great job of pushing the pace and playing our style of basketball."

The Warriors had five players in double figures, led by Dorvilien with 24 points, Stewart-Muir with 13, De'Tavious Campbell with 12, Jabari Richardson with 12 and John Fuentes with 11 in the team's 98-70 victory.
