Lady Warriors Softball Sun Conference Champions

Box Score CLERMONT, Fla – The Lady Warriors took on The University of South Carolina Beaufort Sand Sharks in the Conference Championship today, late inning heroics extended the game into extra innings and it was the Warriors that came out on top as The 2016 Sun Conference Champions.

With the Sand Sharks ahead, 4-6 in the bottom of the 7th inning and 1 out on the board, The Sun Conference Player of the Year Brandi Hazen laced a single to right. Next up to bat, Laura Borders, known to her teammates as "YaYa", with a full count launched a 2-run homerun to tie the game at 6-6 and send the game into extra innings. After a battle back and forth, in the bottom of the 12th inning, Kayla Montgomery singled to the pitcher's mound; Katie O'Dell hit a sacrifice bunt advancing Montgomery to second. Megan Isoba struck out swinging. This left Kara Seymour at the plate with 2 outs in the bottom of the 12th. Every kid and player has dreamt of that moment where everything was on the line with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning and the winning run at second in the championship game. Kara Seymour took the opportunity and shot a single into left field that scored Montgomery and sealed the walk-off win for the Lady Warriors!

Kayla Montgomery was given the win off the mound. She threw 8.1 solid innings surrendering only 4 hits and 1 run to the Sand Sharks.

Four Lady Warriors were named to the All-Conference team. Congratulations to Katie O'Dell, Kara Seymour, Brandi Hazen and Kayla Montgomery.

With this win the Lady Warriors have won the 2016 Sun Conference Championship!!! They now receive a bid into the NAIA National Championships. Congratulations to the Webber International University Softball team and Coaches for an amazing season so far! Good luck in the upcoming NAIA Championships and Go Warriors!!!
