Softball Continues Strong Week with Sweep of Northwestern College

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University softball welcomed Northwestern College to Nancy Nichols Field, Wednesday, for a doubleheader. The Warriors were dominant, shutting the Red Raiders out in game one, 1-0, and outhitting Northwestern in game two, 11-6.

Katie O'Dell played hero in game one, delivering the game-winning hit. Brandi Hazen's unbelievable start continued against Northwestern, going 4-7 with an RBI.

Kayla Montgomery was lights-out for a second consecutive start. She tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing only two hits, pushing her record to 2-1.

The Warriors were first on the board, picking up thier only run in the second inning. Laura Borders led off the inning by reaching base due to an errant throw by the catcher. She proceeded to steal second and third to put herself into scoring position. O'Dell stepped into the batter's box with two outs. With the count at 2-2, she hit the ball straight up the middle, bringing home Borders.

Montgomery would take over from there, allowing only one Red Raider hit, securing the narrow, 1-0, win.

Game two was a barnburner, with 17 runs coming off 23 total hits.

After the first inning it looked as if Webber International would breeze to an easy victory. Hazen, Borders and Kara Seymour each picked up an RBI with Red Raider errors pushing the Warriors lead to 6-0.

Ashlyn Harden added two more runs to Webber International's advantage, 6-2, with a double to left field.

Northwestern clawed its way back into the game with a big fifth inning. The Red Raiders pushed across three runs on four hits, cutting Webber International's lead to, 8-4. Megan Isoba and O'Dell responded in the bottom of the inning, bring the score to 10-4.

The Warriors would see Northwestern score two more runs, hanging on to the, 11-6, victory.
