Box Score ST. LEO, Fla. – Webber International University was on the road, Tuesday, for a match up against St. Leo University. In a game that saw 22 runs and 22 hits, the Warriors fell, 13-9.
Brett Kaminski was an effective DH for the Warriors, going 2-3 with three RBI. Daniel Aviles went 1-4 on the day, with his one hit coming off a grand slam.
The Warriors were on the board first after, reigning Sun Conference Player of the Week, Taylor Layner delivered an RBI single through the left side. St. Leo found an immediate response, tying the game, at 1-1, in the bottom of half of the inning.
Down 3-1 after three innings of action, Kaminski crushed a triple to deep right center, scoring another run for the Warriors. Again, the Lions had a response in the bottom half of the inning, adding two more runs to bring the score to 5-2.
The sixth inning saw 12 runs scored between the two teams.
Webber International opened the sixth by loading the bases with no outs. Down 1-2 in the count, Kaminski belted a two-run double down the right field line. Daniel Timmons was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Jose Olivero then earned a five-pitch walk to tie the game at 5-5. Aviles then gave the Warriors its first lead since the top of the first with a soaring grand slam to left field.
St. Leo would go on to score five runs of their own, retaking the lead at 10-9.
The Lions would tack on three more runs, downing the Warriors, 13-9.
