LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University softball kicked off Sun Conference play, Saturday, on the road against Warner University. The Warriors came away with a dominant, 2-0, victory over their archrivals, Warner.

Freshman Melanie Murphy continues to shine for the Warriors, picking up her fifth win of the season. Murphy pitched a complete game shutout, limiting the Royals to just three hits over seven stellar innings of work.

Both team struggled on offense, as the game saw only two runs and five hits.

Things picked up in the third inning, with both teams putting a runner into scoring position. Katie O'Dell led off the top inning and was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Alyssa Householder fired a single past the second baseman, pushing O'Dell to third. Unfortunately, the Warriors were unable to break the deadlock.

Webber International finally got on the board in the fifth. Murphy drew a walk to lead off the inning. Kara Seymour picked up the Warriors second hit of the game with a single past third base. Householder then delivered a sacrifice fly deep to center, finally putting the Warriors on the board. In the next at-bat Shanelly Brown attempted to steal second. An errant throw by the catcher missed its target, allowing another run to score, pushing Webber International's advantage to 2-0.

Murphy held strong and shut down the Royals to secure the 2-0 win.
