Softball Splits Series With Peru State

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University softball hosted Peru State, Friday, for a doubleheader. The Bobcats took game one, 1-0, in a pitcher's duel, but the Warriors bounced back to dominate game two, 7-2.

The top of Webber International's lineup was strong, with Shanelly Brown, Alyssa Householder and Brandi Hazen, combining for nine hits over the two games. Kayla Montgomery contributed in the batter's box and on the mound in the game two victory, registering two RBI and a strong innings to secure the win.

Naomi Spurgeon and Erika Bellinger limited Peru State to one run on six hits but did not get the win. Bellinger was flawless in her three innings of work, striking out five.

Freshman Melanie Murphy was dominant in game two. In five innings of work, Murphy allowed only one run on three hits and struck out five Bobcat batters.

Peru State 1, Webber International 0
Tough pitching kept the Warrior bats at bay in game one, as Webber International picked up only five hits and posted no runs.

A leadoff-double in the top of the second would eventually lead to Peru State's game-winning run.

The Warriors showed life in the bottom of the sixth, getting two players into scoring position with no outs. Brown led off the inning with a bunt single and then stole second.

Householder took a page out of Brown's book and registered a bunt single and steal of her own.

Unfortunately, the Warriors could not push either run home, eventually falling, 1-0.

Peru State 2, Webber International 7
Webber International's offense was resurrected in game two, pushing home seven runs on 12 hits. Five players registered two hits in the game, while five picked up a RBI.

The bunt was deadly for Webber International in game two. The Warriors opened the game with two bunt singles, with Brown reaching home.

Peru State tied the game up in the top of the fourth, but Webber International had an answer.

The Warriors loaded the bases with the first three batters of the inning. Amanda Solar was then hit by a pitch to push home a run. Megan Isoba followed that up with a sacrifice fly to right field. Katie O'Dell then delivered an RBI single. Kara Seymour closed out the inning with a RBI sacrifice bunt, bring the Warrior lead to 5-1.

Montgomery would add two more run on her own, securing the victory, 7-2.
