Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University softball played hosts to No. 15 Davenport University, Tuesday, for an afternoon double-header. Both games were tightly contested but the Warriors would go on to lose both games, 1-0 and 3-2.
In a series devoid of offense, Shanelly Brown performed well at the plate, going 3-6 and nearly completing an in-the-park homerun. She was also great in the outfield, registering six putouts and chasing down well hit balls to keep Davenport baserunners at bay.
Both starting pitchers performed well, though neither was able to register a win. Kayla Montgomery went seven full innings, striking out four, allowing only one run on three hits. Erika Bellinger threw 116 pitches in eight high-intensity innings of work, striking out seven along the way.

The Warriors had a great chance early in the game to take the lead. After two-consecutive hit-by-pitches, Brandi Hazen was able to advances both runners into scoring position with a sharply hit ball to first. Unfortunately, the next wo batter would strike out, stranding the baserunners.
Webber International nearly took the lead again in the bottom of the third. Brown belted a ball deep and over the outfielder's head allowing her to motor all the way to third. On the throw in, Brown took off for home but was barley thrown out to keep the game level.
A double just past the out stretched glove of Kara Seymour, would allow the Panthers to take the lead, 1-0, in the top of the sixth.
Davenport pithing would keep the Warrior bats at bay for the rest of the game, downing Webber International, 1-0.

In an extra inning pitcher's duel, Webber International would come close to registering a win over the fifteenth-ranked team in the nation.
The Warriors would take the lead in th third inning. Daniel Ekberg opened the inning with a five-pitch walk and would be advanced to third by a sacrifice bunt and Brown single. Alyssa Householder put down a suicide squeeze, pushing home a run after the Panthers could not make the play at home.
Davenport pushed home a run in the top of the fifth, but the Warriors would retake the lead soon after, 2-1.
The Panthers were able to even things again late in the seventh and an untimely double play for the Warriors would force extra innings.
Davenport would use a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to push ahead, 3-2, in the top of the eight. Webber International could not get things going in the bottom of the inning, losing out, 3-2.
