Softball Rolls Past Chestnut Hill

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University softball hosted Chestnut Hill College, Sunday, for an afternoon double-header. The Warriors took game one, 5-1, and secured the sweep with a, 7-3, victory in game two.

Brandi Hazen continues to tear the cover off the ball for the Warriors. She went 3-7 against the Griffins, collecting three RBI and another homerun. Alyssa Householder also put together a solid series going 4-7 with two RBI. Melanie Murphy was stellar in her first career start, pitching a complete game and registering seven strike outs.

The first inning nearly proved perilous for the Warriors, but Murphy was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam to keep things level.

Webber International would get on the board first, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second. Kara Seymour fired the opening salvo with a hard-hit single to right. Shanelly Brown followed with a deep double to left center.  Alyssa Householder put the Warriors ahead, 3-0, with an RBI single of her own. Hazen closed out the big inning with a homerun over the right field wall, pushing Webber International's advantage to 5-0.

Murphy would take over the rest of the game, mowing down six Chestnut Hill batters, securing a 5-1 victory and her first career win.

Another five-run inning would lift the Warriors over the Griffins, 7-3.

Webber International struggled in the field to open the game, registering three errors that allowed three Griffin runs to score.

The Warriors wasted no time hitting back, scoring five in the bottom of the third. An Ashlyn Harden double, Hazen double and two sacrifice plays allowed Webber International to jumped ahead, 5-3.

Laura Borders would hit a massive homerun in the fifth, while a Householder RBI sacrifice bunt in the sixth to secure the win, 7-3.
