BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Lady Warriors hosted the Saint Thomas University Lady Bobcats on
Nancy Nichols Field on the Webber campus. The Lady Warriors came into the game looking to extend their win streak to four games and they did just that sweeping the conference double-header against the Lady Bobcats. Webber won game one 3-0 and game two 1-0.
Game One:
The Lady Warriors started out fast scoring their first run in the bottom of the first inning.
Jennifer Hamil singled down the left line and drove in
Stephanie Cabrices, 1-0. The Lady Warriors and Lady Bobcats remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Shanelly Brown singled into the outfield and advanced to second on the throw. That scored
Laura Borders, 2-0. The next batter
Zoe Hart drove in
Shanelly Brown to give the Lady Warriors a 3-0 lead. The Lady Warriors defense would only allow the Lady Bobcats to get three hits the entire game.
Kayla Montogomery collected the win for the Lady Warriors pitching staff and also collected the shut-out.
Game Two:
Both teams entered a defensive battle as both pitcher and teams did not score until the bottom of the 6
th as
Jennifer Hamil hit a solo homerun. That would be the only run scored because of the high level of play by both teams.
Naomi Spurgeon collected the win for the Lady Warriors pitching staff and she too collected a shut-out.
The Lady Warriors record improves to 21-12 overall and move to 4-2 in The Sun Conference.
Webber's softball team will return to action on Wednesday, April 1
st as the travel to Lakeland to take on Southeastern University starting at 2:00 p.m.
