WEST PALM BEACH, Fla – The Webber International University Lady Warriors softball team traveled to Miami, FL this past Saturday to take on conference opponent, Northwood University in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Field. The Northwood University Lady Seahawks took two wins over the Lady Warriors with a 4-3 win in 10 innings in the opener and another 4-3 win in game two.
In game one Northwood scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Webber answered with three runs in the top of the sixth. Neither team scored for three full innings. The Lady Seahawks made a run in the bottom of the 10
th inning, ending the first game, 4-3 over the Lady Warriors.
Leading the Lady Warriors on the field in game one were:
Jennifer Hamil scoring one run;
Lydia Hough going two for four at the plate with one run;
Francesca Magliocchetti going two for five at the plate with one run; and
Sydney Jones going two for five at the plate with three RBI's.
Naomi Spurgeon collected the loss for the Lady Warrior's pitching staff.
In game two, the Lady Seahawks put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning only to extend their lead in the bottom of the third. The Lady Warriors responded with three runs in the top of the fourth. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game. The game ended early because of stormy weather, with Northwood picking up the win, 4-3.
Leading the Lady Warriors on the field were:
Jennifer Hamil going three for four at the plate with one run and one RBI;
Amanda Solar going one for two at the plate, scoring one run; and
Jasmine Rodriguez going two for three at the plate, scoring one run.
Jessica Sheffield collected the loss for the Lady Warrior's pitching staff.
The Lady Warriors record drops to 12-14 overall and 1-3 in The Sun Conference, while the Northwood University improved to 11-13 overall and 2-0 in TSC play. Webber will return to action on April 3
rd as they travel to Avon Park to take on South Florida State College Lady Panthers in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m.
