Lady Warriors Sweep Double-Header from Lady Maple Leafs

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Lady Warriors softball team hosted Goshen College today in a double-header that started at 1:00 p.m. Webber collected both wins over the Lady Maple Leafs improving the Lady Warriors record to 8-8 overall.
 
In the first game of the double-header the Lady Warriors sent #28 Naomi Spurgeon to the mound to face the Lady Maple Leafs. Webber put the first and only run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when #7 Jennifer Hamil drove in #15 Alyssa Householder. The rest of game one became a pitching and defensive battle.
 
Leading the Lady Warriors on the field in game one were: #15 Alyssa Householder, a freshman from Clearwater, Florida, going two for three at the plate and scored the only run of the game; 7 Jennifer Hamil, a junior from Santa Fe, Texas, going one for three and had the only RBI of the game.
 
#28 Naomi Spurgeon pitched a shutout, only allowing two hits, five strikeouts, and one walk. Spurgeon also collected the win for the Lady Warriors pitching staff.
 
In game two the Lady Warriors sent #22 Jessica Sheffield to the mound looking to extend their winning streak. In the bottom of the first inning the Warriors scored three runs. In the top of the 4th inning with two outs the Lady Maple Leafs scored four runs taking over the lead. Goshen was helped out by the three errors committed by the Lady Warriors. In the bottom of the 4th inning Webber responded scoring five runs with three coming from #7 Jennifer Hamil hitting a three run homerun.  The Lady Warriors defense shut down the Lady Maple Leafs the rest of the game. In the bottom of the 6th inning Webber scored the last run of the game and won 9-4 over Goshen.
 
Leading the Lady Warriors on the field in game two were; #7 Jennifer Hamil, a junior from Santa Fe, Texas, going three for four from the plate with one being a three run homerun. She also had five RBI's and two runs; #16 Kalei Levy, a sophomore from Roseville, California, going one for three at the plate and scoring two runs; and #18 Jasmine Rodriguez, a sophomore from Jersey City, going one for four and scoring two runs.
 
#22 Jessica Sheffield collected the win for the Lady Warriors pitching staff.
 
The Lady Warriors will return to action on March 4th as they host Bluefield in a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m. on Nancy Nichols Field located on the Webber International University Campus.
