Lady Warriors Sweep Lady Tigers, 5-1, 12-5

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Lady Warriors softball team hosted Edward Waters College in a double-header on Nancy Nichols Field. The Lady Warriors won both games of the double-header improving their record to 6-8 overall.

In game one the Lady Tigers put the first run on the board in the top of the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 1st Webber responded scoring three runs of their own. In the bottom of the 2nd and 6th innings the Lady Warriors scored one run in each to have a 5-1 lead going into the 7th inning. The Webber defense did not allow the Lady Tigers to get anything started after giving up one run in the top of the 1st inning.

Naomi Spurgeon collected the win in game one for the Lady Warriors pitching staff. She pitched five innings giving up only two hits and one run.

Leading the Lady Warriors on the field in game one were: #16 Kalei Levy, #15 Alyssa Householder, #9 Lydia Hough, #12 Francesca Magliocchetti, and #24 Ashlyn Harden all scored one run and #5 Sydney Jones had two RBI's.

In game two the Lady Tigers jumped all over the Lady Warriors pitcher and would be helped out with fielding errors in the top of the 1st inning when they scored five runs, to take an early 5-0 lead. Webber responded in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings scoring two runs in each inning bringing the Lady Warriors within one of the Lady Tigers, 5-4. In the bottom of the 3rd, Webber scored four runs, gaining the lead, 8-5. The Lady Warriors extended their lead in the bottom of the 5th scoring three runs, to go up 11-5, and put the game away in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring their last run winning the game 12-5. Again, after the first inning , the Webber defense stepped up and shutout the Lady Tigers from the top of the 2nd inning to the end of the game.

Jessica Sheffield collected the win for the Lady Warriors pitching staff after a rocky start. She threw six innings giving up six hits and five runs.

Leading the Lady Warriors on the field were; #16 Kalei Levy with four runs off of four hits; #15 Alyssa Householder with five RBI's, three hits, and two runs; #1 Jessica Kobie with three runs off of two hits; #17 Amanda Solar with two RBI's, two runs, and one hit; #5 Sydney Jones and #9 Lydia Hough would both get two RBI's off one hit each.

The Lady Warriors return to action on Wednesday, February 26th as they host Goshen College Lady Maple Leafs in a double-header starting at 1:00 p.m.
