Lady Warriors Won the Series Versus Lady Gyrenes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Ave Maria, Fla. – Webber International took the series with two out of three wins from Ave Maria. Lady Warriors dominated in the first two games, where game one of the series went to Webber with a final score of 11-3 on Friday, March 30, 2012. On Saturday, March 31, 2012 Lady Warriors split the doubleheader where they took the first game in six innings and WIU gave up their victory in the seventh inning after having a 4-2 lead going into the seventh.

Game One

Ave Maria was first to get on board in the top of the first inning, but Webber International were not going to stay down for long. Lady Warriors came up with 12 unanswered runs after Lady Gyrenes score the first run in the first inning.

Leading the way for Lady Warriors was third baseman, Elizabet Rodriguez, with 3 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Ashley Peterson, Yahtea Benton, and Jessica Lanci each had two runs in the victory over Lady Gyrenes. Ashlee Quigley pitched in 6 innings where she faced 23 batters, allowed 2 hits, 1 run, and had 5 players strikeout.

Campbell was the only player to score for Ave Maria. Crews pitched in 6 innings where she faced 35 pitchers, allowed 16 hits, 12 runs, and had one player strikeout.

Game Two

Once more Ave Maria scored the first run, but Warriors rallied back and took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning; nonetheless, they gave up their lead and victory in the top of the seventh inning after three runs by Lady Gyrenes to take the game 5-4 from Lady Warriors.

Ashlee Quigley, Maureen Sandidge, Brittany Spencer, and Sydney Jones each had a run in the second doubleheader. Dana Roloff pitched in 6 innings where she faced 28 batters, allowed 6 hits, 5 of them were runs, and she had 3 strikeouts.

Leading the way for Ave Maria was left fielder, Campbell, who had two runs, and Holtfreter who pitched in 7 innings, allowed 9 hits, 4 of them were runs, and had 3 players strikeout.

Lady Warriors improved to 25-19 in the season and are 6-3 in The Sun Conference; while, Lady Gyrenes fell to 9-17 in the season and 4-8 in The Sun Conference.

Webber softball will host a Crooked Lake rival, Warner University, in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 on Nancy Nichols Field on WIU campus and the first pitch will be at 1 pm. The series will continue on Thursday, April 5, 2012 in the final game which will start at 4 pm.
