Lady Warriors Split a DH with Lady Mustangs

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Lady Warriors split a doubleheader where they lost the first one 1-2 in the eight inning, and defeated the Lady Mustangs with an ease in  the second one with a final score of 8-2 at Nancy Nichols Field on February 24, 2012. This one the first loss at home for the Warriors, currently they stand 5-1 on their home turf.

GAME ONE

The first game ended with a loss for the Lady Warriors 1-2 in the eighth inning, this was the first home loss for the Head Softball Coach, Amy Krazeise, where she stood 4-1 after the first doubleheader.

Webber International came out scoring first in the 4th inning where they finished the inning with 1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, and 1 LOB. Jessica Lanci doubled down the left field line, then Ashlee Quigley reached on a fielder's choice to second base and Jessica Lanci advanced to third. Maureen Sandidge grounded out to third base as she sacrificed herself and earned an RBI as Jessica Lanci scored.

Western Ontario tied the game in the 6th inning where they ended the top of the sixth with 1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, and 1 LOB. Stirling doubled, reached on a fielder's choice and earned an RBI as  Murray scored.

Lady Mustangs scored once more in the 8th inning to win the game where they had 1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, and 1 LOB. Murray doubled down the left field line and earned an RBI as Hewins scored.

Kiana Levy pitched in 8 innings where she had 103 total pitches. She faces 34 batters and had 4 strikeouts. Cox pitched in 8 innings as well for the Mustangs and 103 pitches facing only 29 batters and she had 2 strikeouts.

Mustangs had 9 batters left on bases to only 6 by Lady Warriors. Murray and Stirling from Western Ontario, and Jessica Lanci had double in the first game.

GAME TWO

Lady Warriors came out with more passion in the second game and were determined to take down Lady Mustangs. The final score in the second game was 8-2 and Webber improved to 5-1 at home.

Webber International had a huge 3rd inning as they finished with 5 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, and 0 LOB. Yahtea Benton reached on a fielder's choice to first base and Jessica Lanci reached on an error by right fielder to first base which allowed Yahtea Benton to advance to second. Ashlee Quigley flied out to center field and sacrificed herself to allow Yahtea Benton to advance to third. Maureen Sandidge doubled to right center and earned 2 RBIs as Jessica Lanci scored an unearned run and Yahtea Benton scored an earned run. Brittany Spencer was walked. Elizabet  Rodriguez homered and earned herself 3 RBIs as Brittany Spencer, Maureen Sandidge.

Webber International expanded their lead in the 4th inning where they had 1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, and 2 LOB.  - A. Geiger popped up to shortstop (2-0 BB). Ashlee Quigley singled to left field and earned an RBI as Yahtea Benton scored.

Western Ontario in 6th inning had 1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, and 3 LOB. Wakefield singled through the right side and earned herself an RBI as MacKay scored. Bases were loaded and Hanson was at bat. Dana Roloff was not going to allow any more runs to let Mustangs close their deficit, so she threw a fastball where Hanson popped up to shortstop and that was their second out. Martin was next; bases loaded, 2 outs, and if she gets a good hit she could have turned the game around with a good hit, but good defense on Lady Warriors took her out a fielder's choice, out at first from Dana Roloff to first basewomen.

Webber International in the 6th inning had 2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, and 1 LOB. Ashlee Quigley homered through the left side earning herself 2 RBIs as Jessica Lanci scored.

Western Ontario in the 7th inning had 1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, and 0 LOB.  MacKay singled, then advanced to second on a fielder's choice to stop a run, but was out at third from catcher to third basewoman, but not before earning an RBI as Anstett scored.

Pitches/strikes: Stevenson was 70/43; Stirling was 30/18; Cox 4/4; Ashlee Quigley was 61/47 and Dana Roloff was 38/26. There were no strikeouts this game.

Margolis and from Lady Mustangs had errors. Mustangs had 8 people left on bases to 7 by Lady Warriors. Maureen Sandidge was the only player to have a double and Ashlee Quigley and Elizabet Rodriguez each had their own homeruns. MacKay and Davidson from Mustangs and Yahtea Benton had stolen bases.

Webber International improved to 5-7 overall and 5-1 at home, as The University of Western Ontario's overall record is 4-6 in the season.

Lady Warriors will be in Panama City Beach, Fla. March 2-3 where they will take on Indiana University Southeast and Columbia College (Mo.) at 2:30 pm and 10 am, respectively.
