Warriors Split Doubleheader With Davenport

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber baseball team lost the first game 10-5 after giving up seven runs in the fourth inning but bounced back and won game two 6-3 versus the Panthers of Davenport University.
The Warriors fell behind early in game one giving up three runs in the third inning but bounced back and took the lead after scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The wheels then fell off for Webber as the Panthers tallied seven in the top of the fourth. The deficit was too much for the Warriors to overcome. 

Leading the way for the Warriors at the plate was Hunter Ovens and Tripp Merrell who had two hits apiece. Shane McIntyre chipped in by driving in two runs. 

Game two saw the Warriors jump on the board early scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. The Panther s evened the score in the top of the of the third but Webber pushed three more across in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 4-1. Both teams pushed runs across n the fifth and Webber added one in the sixth. Davenport scored a run in the seventh but their rally was cut short and the Warriors secured the win. 

Ovens again led the way offensively picking up two more hits, one of which was a long ball in the sixth. He also scored two runs and drove in two. Derek Self picked up his first win of the season as he threw an inning and two thirds and Danny Bishop earned his first save of the season throwing two and a third innings. 

Webber moves to 4-10 on the season and will take the diamond again tomorrow as they take on the University of South Carolina Beaufort in a The Sun Conference matchup. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
