BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Warrior baseball team held off the Lions of St. Leo University, who rallied in the ninth, to win 5-4. This win makes Webber 3-0 versus NCAA teams this year. The Warriors even their record at 19-19 with the victory.
Webber Scored first as they pushed a run across in the third inning but the Lions evened up in the top of the fourth with a run scored. Webber then scored again in the fifth and seemed to take control of the game notching three in the bottom of the seventh. But, St. Leo was very persistent and crossed the plate three times in the ninth only to fall short 5-4.
Leading the way for the Warriors at the plate was Vince Ratto who had three hits and two runs scored. Randy Hernandez chipped in with two hits and Jose Ramos had a pinch hit single that drove in two runs in the seventh. Other Warriors collecting hits were Ryan Jamison, Nate Goldstein, Lance Lozan, Shawn Mayhew, and Tito Carrillo.
Will Arnold started the game on the mound in a game where the Warriors staffed to get ready for this weekend's conference series. Arnold tossed two perfect innings striking out three Lion batters. He was accompanied by Mark McLeod, 1 IP 0 R 0 H, Chris Kirk, 2 IP 1 R 2 H, Jason Benkert, 1 IP 0 R 0 H, Ryan Gibbard, 2 IP 0 R 1 H 4 SO, and Carlo Galluccio, 1 IP 3 R 4 H. Kirk picked up the win which is his third on the year.
Webber will hit the diamond again this Friday as they host conference rival Northwood University. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 pm. That will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday with a noon start.
