Babson Park, Fla. – Tuesday, November 30th, Webber International University Alum, Vince Anderson, got the call he was been waiting for. Anderson was promoted to the active roster. Anderson, a 2008 graduate of WIU, spent the 2009-2010 NFL Season on the New York Giants practice squad. The Giants released him at the end of the season.
The Bucs signed Anderson, from Lake City, Florida, with less than two weeks to go before cut day in August. V.A. played in all of the Bucs pre-season games. Anderson did get cut, by the Bucs, on the final cut day, but was immediately signed to their practice squad.
Anderson played mainly corner back during his Webber career. In the NFL he is playing the safety position. The 25-year old Anderson spent the first 12 weeks of the season on the practice squad, but is very excited to have the opportunity to show that he can get the job done!
The 6 foot 2 inch and 205 pound Anderson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. He becomes the first player from Webber International to make an NFL roster.
According to WIU Athletic Director,
Bill Heath, “Vince has known what he wanted to accomplish since his senior year, and now he has done it. We hope for the best for V.A. and we hope he has a long successful career in the NFL.” Added Heath, “this shows that if a young student-athlete is motivated and confident in what they want to do in life, the size of the University that they choose to attend is not a hindrance for them to advance to the next level, it is simply a matter of them having the “want to” and belief in their abilities.”
