TAMPA, Fla. — Webber International University volleyball senior Alejandra Aponte has been named the Sun Conference Defender of the Week following an impressive opening weekend at the La Tribu Invitational. The honor marks Aponte's second career Player of the Week recognition and her first of the 2026 season.

Aponte helped lead the Warriors to a 3-1 record over the opening weekend, while also earning a spot on the La Tribu All-Tournament Team for her defensive efforts.

The defensive specialist was a key contributor throughout all four matches, recording a team-high 83 digs while averaging 5.53 digs per set. She also contributed 13 assists and eight service aces.
Aponte opened the weekend with 20 digs, six assists and one service ace against Life University. She followed that performance with 14 digs and one ace in a 3-0 victory over Talladega.

In Saturday's matches, Aponte posted 15 digs and a career-best five service aces in a 3-1 win over Johnson (Tenn.). She closed out the weekend with a dominant 34-dig performance in Webber's five-set victory over William Carey, adding three assists, one ace and one block.

Aponte's 34 digs against William Carey marked her highest single-match total of the weekend and helped the Warriors rally for the five-set victory.

Through the opening weekend, Aponte has recorded at least 14 digs in every match and has posted double-digit digs in all four contests.

The Warriors return to action this weekend as they travel to Mobile, AL, to compete in the Faulkner Invitational.
