Webber Volleyball Splits Day One of La Tribu Invitational to Open 2026 Season

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Webber International University volleyball team split its opening day of the 2026 season Friday at the La Tribu Invitational, earning a 1-1 record after a pair of matches at Life University. The Warriors opened the day with a 3-1 setback to Life University before bouncing back with a victory over Talladega College in the evening match.

Webber opened the 2026 campaign against Life, battling the Running Eagles through four competitive sets before falling 3-1 by scores of 22-25, 21-25, 25-19 and 18-25.

WEBBER 1, LIFE 3
Webber came out strong in the opening set, staying within striking distance before Life took the first frame, 25-22. The Warriors continued to battle in the second set but fell 25-21, heading into the intermission trailing 2-0.

The Warriors responded in the third set with their strongest performance of the match. Webber recorded 10 kills in the frame while holding Life to nine kills, earning a 25-19 victory to extend the match.

Life answered in the fourth set, taking the final frame 25-18 to secure the 3-1 victory.

Cristina Marrero led the Warriors offensively in the season opener, recording a team-high 13 kills while adding nine digs and a pair of blocks. Ajhanae Momperousse followed with eight kills, while Brianna Adams contributed six kills on an efficient .444 hitting percentage.

Katelyn Bobo paced the Webber offense with 18 assists, while Lucianna Marinella added 10 assists and 11 digs. Alejandra Aponte anchored the defensive effort with a match-high 20 digs.

The Warriors finished the match with 42 kills, eight service aces and 56 digs, while forcing Life into a competitive four-set battle.

WEBBER 3, TALLADEGA 0
Webber responded in a big way in its second match of the day, sweeping Talladega College 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-8 to close out Friday with a 1-1 record.

The Warriors established control from the opening serve, hitting .214 as a team in the first set while recording 11 kills. Webber continued to build momentum in the second set, posting 14 kills and hitting .312 to take a 2-0 advantage.

Webber closed out the sweep with a 25-8 victory.

Jennifer Ninette Romero Lopez led the Warriors with eight kills, while Kara Doan and Cassandra Kendall each added five kills. Stacy Maimur contributed four kills, while Doan and Arianna Rivera each recorded three service aces.

Bobo paced the Webber offense with 15 assists, while Zoey Dallas added nine assists. Samantha Gomez contributed four assists and seven digs. Aponte anchored the defense with 14 digs, while Dallas and Gomez each added seven.

As a team, Webber finished the match with 41 kills, 36 assists, 11 service aces and 42 digs while hitting .293. The Warriors held Talladega to a .090 hitting percentage and just 24 kills.

With the victory, Webber moves to 1-1 on the young season and closes the opening day of the La Tribu Invitational on a winning note.
