Volleyball opens the 2026 season 3-1 at the Carlos Soler "La Tribu" Invitational

MARIETTA, Ga. – The Webber International University women's volleyball team closed out the Carlos Soler "La Tribu" Invitational at Life University with a pair of victories Saturday, defeating Johnson University (Tennessee) 3-1 Saturday morning before rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat William Carey University (Miss.) 3-2 in a thrilling Saturday afternoon matchup. The two wins gave the Warriors their second and third victories of the 2026 season.

The Warriors (3-1) earned a 3-1 victory over Johnson by scores of 25-17, 16-25, 25-14 and 25-12, before rallying from a two-set deficit against William Carey to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 17-25, 10-25 and 15-5.

WEBBER 3, JOHNSON 1
Webber's offense was led by Hailey Mull, who recorded a match-high 13 kills while adding two blocks and three digs. Kalyn Morgan contributed 10 kills while hitting .360, while Cristina Marrero added nine kills, two service aces and nine digs.

Katelyn Bobo directed the Warriors' offense with 29 assists and added six service aces and 14 digs. Alejandra Aponte anchored the defensive effort with a team-high 15 digs while also recording five service aces.

As a team, Webber finished with a .197 hitting percentage and held Johnson to a .080 mark. The Warriors also held advantages in kills (52-32), assists (48-32), service aces (15-7) and digs (73-60).

Webber jumped out to an early lead by taking the opening set 25-17. Johnson answered in the second set with a 25-16 victory, but the Warriors responded by controlling the third set, 25-14. The Warriors then closed out the match in convincing fashion, hitting .370 in the fourth set on the way to a 25-12 victory.

WEBBER 3, WILLIAM CAREY 2
The Warriors claimed the opening two sets, 25-20 and 25-23, before William Carey responded with victories of 25-17 and 25-10 to force a decisive fifth set. Webber answered emphatically, racing to a 15-5 victory in the final frame to secure the comeback win.

Webber came out strong in the opening set, overcoming a late William Carey push to close out a 25-20 victory. The Warriors then battled through a tight second set, eventually taking it 25-23 to move within one set of the match.

William Carey refused to go quietly, taking the third set 25-17 before dominating the fourth, 25-10, to even the match at two sets apiece.
In the deciding fifth set, Webber quickly established control. The Warriors jumped out to an 8-1 advantage and continued to build their lead, eventually closing out the set 15-5 to complete the comeback.

Morgan paced the Warriors' attack with 12 kills while adding 19 digs and four service aces. Mull contributed 11 kills and 10 digs, while Bobo finished with 25 assists to help direct the Webber offense.

Defensively, Aponte turned in a standout performance with 34 digs. Marrero added 10 digs and two blocks as the Warriors finished with 94 digs as a team.

The Warriors will return to action on Friday, Aug. 28, traveling to Mobile, Alabama, to take on Faulkner University at Jessica Costanzo Court inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
