Warriors Drop First Game of the Year to Cougars

Babson Park, FL – The 7th ranked Webber International Women's Flag Football team fell to Saint Francis, 21-12, on Monday afternoon in Babson Park after a strong opening quarter was offset by three Saint Francis scoring drives over the final three periods. The Warriors struck first and showed plenty of explosiveness through the air, but Saint Francis capitalized on key turnovers to pull away late.

Webber opened the game with a scoring drive and grabbed a 6-0 lead when Luzariana Herrera connected with Rylee Bolser for a three-yard touchdown with 6:38 left in the first quarter. The extra-point try was unsuccessful, keeping the Warriors in front by six. Saint Francis answered early in the second quarter on a one-yard rushing touchdown by Jianna Reyes, then added the conversion to even the score at 6-6 heading into halftime.

Saint Francis took control coming out of the break, putting together a 66-yard touchdown drive to move ahead 13-6. Webber responded quickly midway through the third quarter when Hailey Mull found Bolser on a 59-yard touchdown strike, trimming the deficit to 14-12 after the conversion attempt failed. That would be as close as the Warriors would get, as Saint Francis answered with another touchdown pass from Reyes in the fourth quarter to seal the 21-12 final.

Bolser led the Webber offense with a huge day, hauling in 12 receptions for 148 yards and both Warrior touchdowns while also totaling a team-high 16 tackles defensively. Webber finished with 272 passing yards and 11 first downs, with Mull throwing for 135 yards and a touchdown and Herrera adding 137 yards and a score through the air. Kaitlyn Sigmundi added six catches for 47 yards, while Yasmin Lott chipped in four receptions for 24 yards.

Defensively, the Warriors were active throughout the contest, finishing with 45 total tackles and two sacks. Kahliya Gaitor recorded both sacks and four total tackles, while Cheyenne Durand and Sigmundi each added six tackles. Ijyana Edwards broke up a pass and posted three tackles as Webber tried to slow down a Saint Francis offense that totaled 275 yards.

Saint Francis was paced by Reyes, who accounted for all three touchdowns with two rushing scores and one passing touchdown while throwing for 249 yards. Haylee Weatherspoon led Saint Francis receivers with eight catches for 89 yards, and Madison Myers-Rebidas helped swing the game defensively with two interceptions as Saint Francis picked off Webber three times.
