Babson Park, FL - The No. 5 Webber Warriors earn their 3rd consecutive Sun Conference Tournament Championship. The Warriors went 4-0 on the weekend to defend their crown, earning a bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Warriors opened the tournament with a quick 3-0 win over Mobile.
Webber then took on the William Carey Crusaders, defeating them 3-2. WIU got on the board first with a win at the threes. Leyni Young and Kendall Steinert took their match in straight sets (21-7, 21-11). Nadia Reid and Keirsten Tisdale followed with a win at the twos (21-12, 21-13) to make it 2-0.
The Crusaders won at the fives to cut the Warriors' lead to one, before evening the score with a win at the fours. Janna Morrissey and Lily Arnold took down WCU's top duo to secure the win. After taking set one 21-18, the Crusaders rallied to take set two. In set three, the two pairs traded leads, before the Warriors came out with the 15-13 win.
Webber was then slated to play Mobile again, as UM won their consolation match.
Abby Baxter and Delanie Johnson gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead with a quick win at the fours (21-14, 21-19). Webber's threes followed with a straight set win (21-17, 21-18).
Mobile got on the board with a win at the twos, making it 2-1.
Vivianne Ciancio and Anna Morton sealed the win with a win at the five seed, taking set one convincingly (21-16). MU's pair battled in set two, but Webber came away with the 23-21 win to advance to the finals.
Webber rematched Ave Maria in the championship match and avenged their regular season title with a 3-1 win over the Gyrenes.
Abby Baxter and Delanie Johnson held their opponents to just 17 points in two sets to put the Warriors on the board first. The number four duo for the Warriors took set one 21-17, before dominating set two (21-3).
The Gyrenes evened the score with a win at the twos.
WIU sealed the win with straight set wins at the ones and threes, as they took home the trophy for the third time.
The Warriors will now prepare for the NAIA and AVCA National Tournaments beginning April 12th.
